“US spy satellite falling out of orbit may strike the earth by late February“
WASHINGTON - A large US spy satellite has lost power and could hit the earth in late February or early March, government officials said yesterday.
The satellite, which no longer can be controlled, could contain hazardous materials, and it is unknown where on the planet it might come down, they said. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the information is classified as secret.
“Appropriate government agencies are monitoring the situation,” said Gordon Johndroe, a spokesman for the National Security Council, when asked about the situation after it was disclosed by other officials. “Numerous satellites over the years have come out of orbit and fallen harmlessly. We are looking at potential options to mitigate any possible damage this satellite may cause.”
He would not comment on whether it is possible for the satellite to be perhaps shot down by a missile. He said it would be inappropriate to discuss any specifics at this time.
A senior government official said that lawmakers and other nations are being kept apprised of the situation.
Such an uncontrolled reentry could risk exposure of US secrets, said John Pike, a defense and intelligence specialist. Spy satellites typically are disposed of through a controlled reentry into the ocean so that no one else can access the spacecraft, he said.
Pike also said it’s not likely the threat from the satellite could be eliminated by shooting it down with a missile, because that would create debris that would then re-enter the atmosphere and burn up or hit the ground. (more…)

Craigslist vs Wall Street :)

THIS APPEARED ON CRAIG’S LIST
What am I doing wrong? (Read till the end for the answer)
Okay, I’m tired of beating around the bush. I’m a beautiful (spectacularly beautiful) 25 year old girl. I’m articulate and classy. I’m not from New York . I’m looking to get married to a guy who makes at least half a million a year. I know how that sounds, but keep in mind that a million a year is middle class in New York City, so I don’t think I’m overreaching at all.
Are there any guys who make 500K or more on this board? Any wives? Could you send me some tips? I dated a business man who makes average around 200 - 250. But that’s where I seem to hit a roadblock. 250,000 won’t get me to central park west. I know a woman in my yoga class who was married to an investment banker and lives in Tribeca, and she’s not as pretty as I am, nor is she a great genius. So what is she doing right? How do I get to her level?
Here are my questions specifically:

Wall Street - craigslist ad:
Okay, I’m tired of beating around the bush. I’m a rich (very rich) 30 year old man. I’m articulate and classy. I’m not from New York. I’m looking to get married to a girl who is stunningly beautiful. I know how that sounds, but keep in mind that merely attractive is just average in New York City, so I don’t think I’m overreaching at all.
Are there any girls who are stunning or better on this board? Any sugar daddies? Could you send me some tips? I dated a couple of chicks who were pretty fit. But that’s where I seem to hit a roadblock. Pretty fit won’t get me envious glances on Madison Avenue. I know an investment banker at my racquetball club who was married to a lingerie model and lives in Tribeca, and he’s not as rich as I am, nor is he as sharp. So what is he doing right? How do I get to his level?

Arranged Marriage - the fear of the unknown !!

The woods were lovely dark and deep. Walking slowly beside her, in the damp mud road, was her husband whom she barely knew. He was very relaxed, happily watching a group of kids playing at a distance. Her “mehandi” was still dark and smelling fresh, reminding of the excitements and tension 2 days back.
“It cant work this way mom…please stop this”, she kept telling her mother till the last moment, who wouldn’t listen but carry on with beautifying her. She had been crying all night and her make-up had to be patched up twice or thrice to hide her awkwardly swollen face.It was too late now.She had to get married “NOW” to the guy…The guy whom she had seen once and talked thrice.The guy about whom she knew nothing at all but for his name and work.Everything happened in a hurry and everything was over before she could breathe again… here was she with this guy, all alone in this hill station… how can anybody send their daughter such a long distance with a stranger???

They are not Chinese !!!
The most amusing part of a Chinese meal for me has always been the dessert – the fortune cookie. My appetite would relish the delicacy, but my mind would be hungry to read the words of vague prophecy from the piece of paper baked inside a delicate, crisp cookie made from flour, sugar, butter, vanilla, and milk.
It was more of a thing to fancy than anything else, when the other day, someone asked me – How do you think are these cookies made? And to honestly admit, I was like a fool staring back. To think of it, it was a piece of paper, so nicely tucked in a baked cookie.
How and when does the maker, insert the fortune? Curious to know ? read on

Another reason for us Indians to be proud is the headlines from April 29, 2007:
“Made in India PC for just about $100“
While global computing giants like IBM and AMD are yet to give shape to their ambitious plans for a computer that costs $100 or less, an Indian company, Novatium, has already set its eyes on 10 million potential customers with its up-and-running PC priced at Rs 4,500 only. Novatium was co-founded by US-based Analog Devices chairman Ray Stata, Netcore Solutions managing director Rajesh Jain and professor Ashok Jhunjhunwala of IIT Madras.
The company’s NetPC works on a ‘thin client’ concept. This is a small box and does not contain any software or application. It is linked to a central server, which hosts all applications.
“Network PC (NetPC) costs around $100 (less than Rs 4,400) and along with a monthly subscription of around Rs 400, it provides you with internet connection and almost everything like authentic software and applications,” Singh said.

INDEED !!!
(Auth: Dawn Yanek)
Attention, unmarried people of America:You can splurge on a fancy new wristwatch without having to explain yourself. You can stay out till 3 a.m. without having to phone home. You can leave the toilet seat up. In fact, there are many, many ways that single life rocks, though you may forget that fact when your relatives are grilling you about settling down.
Not only do you have the freedom to do anything you want—it’s also the best time in history to be flying solo. The marriage rate has declined nearly 50 percent since 1970, according to the National Marriage Project at Rutgers University, and right now, there are approximately 100 million singles in the U.S. And there’s strength in those numbers: “Today’s choose-to-be singles differ from the poor-me singles of past generations; there’s less of a stigma attached to being single, ” says Jerusha Stewart, author of The Single Girl’s Manifesta.“Singles are traveling, buying homes and doing everything they want to—you don’t have to get married anymore to live your life with style.”
Want more specifics on why you should celebrate being single?
Here, the 9 most fascinating benefits to being unmarried:

Lovely Rose at 87.
The first day of school our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn’t already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up at me with a smile that lit up her entire being. She said, “Hi handsome. My name is Rose.
I’m eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?”
I laughed and enthusiastically responded, “Of course you may!” and she gave me a giant squeeze
“Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?” I asked. She jokingly replied, “I’m here to meet a rich husband, get married, and have a couple of kids..”

A young man asked Socrates the secret to success. Socrates told the young man to meet him near the river the next morning. They met. Socrates asked the young man to walk with him toward the river. When the water got up to their neck, Socrates took the young man by surprise and ducked him into the water. The boy struggled to get out but Socrates was strong and kept him there until the boy started turning blue. Socrates pulled his head out of the water and the first thing the young man did was to gasp and take a deep breath of air. Socrates asked, ‘What did you want the most when you were there?” The boy replied, “Air.” Socrates said, “That is the secret to success.
When you want success as badly as you wanted the air, then you will get it.”
There is no other secret.

Scaling the heights !! I am still growing
Posted by Arora under Articles, Motivational, My Favorites, Uncategorized[2] Comments
Sir Edmund Hillary was the first man to climb Mount Everest. On May 29, 1953 he scaled the highest mountain then known to man-29,000 feet straight up. He was knighted for his efforts.
He even made American Express card commercials because of it! However, until we read his book, High Adventure, we don’t understand that Hillary had to grow into this success.
You see, in 1952 he attempted to climb Mount Everest, but failed. A few weeks later a group in England asked him to address its members.
Hillary walked on stage to a thunderous applause. The audience was recognizing an attempt at greatness, but Edmund Hillary saw himself as a failure. He moved away from the microphone and walked to the edge of the platform.
He made a fist and pointed at a picture of the mountain. He said in a loud voice, Mount Everest, you beat me the first time, but I’ll beat you the next time because you’ve grown all you are going to grow… but I’m still growing!

Yes !! You Can
Posted by Arora under Articles, Motivational, My Favorites, UncategorizedNo Comments
If you think you are beaten, you are;
if you think you dare not, you don’t;
if you like to win, but you think you can’t
it’s almost a clinch you won’t.
If you think you’ll lose, you’ve lost;
for out in the world we find
success begins with a fellow’s Will~
it’s all in the state of mind.
If you think you are outclassed, you are;
you’ve got to think high to rise.
You’ve just got to be sure of yourself
before you can win the prize.
Life’s battles don’t always go
to the stronger or faster man,
but sooner or later the one who wins
is the one who thinks I CAN.
